Vintage Omega 166.0191 Geneve Automatic

Calibre 1012, a TV-dial watch with an integrated bracelet, signed crown and clasp, a rectangular case and indices make a very attractive watch that shouts aloud the Supersonic decade of the 1970’s. This is the date model with cal 1012, 23 jewel, 28800bph and a power reserve of 42hours. The automatic gear is integrated into the movement, instead of attaching it to a manual-wind calibre as usual. Together with indirectly driven minute and second this leaves in the centre space for a rugged rotor bearing, despite the low profile.

It was produced in 1975 it serial number starts with 3938…Check out my Omega date calendar via this link.

The case dimensions are 36x42mm, what elevates the case from just being a rectangle lump of stainless steel are the subtle details of the rounded edges that connect the integrated steel bracelet really well, a sharp polished bevel runs the length of the case, that provide a pleasing visual contours.  It differentiates between the case top and sides, and it adds a contour to the overall curve of the case side creating the illusion of length and making an already graceful case feel perfect. The watch hugs the wrist and stop the watch flopping about, the weight and balance are perfect, it sits on the wrist elegantly and securely.

Over time the original gasket seal turns a lovely copper colour on vintage Omega’s and is always a welcome sign. Also the crystal is original with the centre Omega logo, often replaced or polished out if the watch has had a hard life. Also another indicator of well cared for and unabused watch is the Omega logo on the clasp is clearly defined and not polished.

I purchased this watch 8months ago and I have only just got round to posting, better late than never!
