Introduction to Certina
The Watch
The Certina DS2 was introduced in 1968 as a successor to the successful DS line that was launched in 1959. What is the DS all about? Well its stands for ‘Double Security’ the crown has a double security system, and is partially hidden. The ‘DS’ is made up of three components never coming into direct contact, the case, movement and the dial. The calibre is very strong and robust as it is fixed by strengthened screws and is protected by a rubber ring almost like an inner tube from a tire, but obviously it is not inflated, it is a thick yellow elastic shock protection. Finished off with a plexiglass four times as thick as normal watches and a reinforced back-case. A groundbreaking innovation.
I have had three of these watches in various conditions; all of the calibres were in perfect condition, proving this DS System has stood the test of time and this shock protection system is not only unique and very effective, but it looks really cool also.
I really like the feel about this Vintage time piece the Certina DS2 provides a lot for the Vintage watch collector, a chunky stainless steel case, logo on the crown, logo and DS signed clasp on a NSA bracelet, a high quality Cal 25-651 , various bright coloured dials and various hands to choose from.
Not forgetting the stunning Turtle back cased designs and still very affordable, what is not to like?
