Citizen Watch Company have been making watches since 1918, I believe they are the largest watch producing company in the world.
The name Citizen came from an early pocket watch made in 1924, previous to that they were known as ‘Shokosha Watch Research Institute’. Citizen are probably best known for their Quartz watches which really took off in the 1970’s, but they also introduced the first solar cell watches, which were introduced as early as 1974. A watch which charges the battery with solar power (Sunlight). They were also first in producing dive watches, and the famous Crystron dive watches of the 1970’s, also they were first to make deep sea dive watches, if my memory serves me correctly and I think it does.
