Zenith Pilot 1950’s
I just love Zenith watches, particularly the Pilot models, this is my third so far, and I think possible my favourite… I am very happy to find such an original example in such excellent condition. The crown has been replaced and does not have the Zenith star logo, I will look to correcting that with an original in the near future. But I am in no hurry and very much enjoying the journey. This model hacks like all the Pilot range for synchronization and the manual wind 126 Caliber is still very accurate.
I am unsure if the crystal is original as it looks quite new, and it seems to sit high and from certain angles distorts the minute markers. But from experience I have seen early crystal sitting quite high, so some further research is required.
A beautiful 80 micron gold capped giving the watch solid gold appearance, as they look very different from gold plated models, and still all the years on none of the stainless steel shows through. A stunningly accurate hand wind caliber (serial number purposely covered by me) the curved lugs wrap neatly underneath the watch, with makes it very comfortable to wear by also making the watch wear much bigger, and still fitting neatly under the shirt cuff.
Shock and waterproof case and crown, non magnetic and 80 microns gold filled. Stotsakrad means shock protection in Swedish I think…
The dial is sublime with alternative number and baton markers that certainly look gold or gold filled to me. The delicate and sophisticated two tone dial shades elevates the quality of this timepiece to another level. The beautiful sculptured hands and detailed sub second dial, with the classic Zenith star and Pilot logo complete the look.
