Omega f300 98.0024 Constellation
The Omega f300 98.0024 Constellation model is a Tuning Fork watch. These are unique watches as they work in a unique way. They work using a tuning fork frequency, yes that’s correct, the watch uses a tuning fork as its prime moving element. This technology was developed by Bulova, and their watches are known as “Accutrons”. These watches are a piece of horological history, and not only are they very accurate and easily achieve Chronometer status. Also they are still very affordable, which is excellent news for the discerning collector. I do not buy watches as an investment, but I also do not buy to lose money either. Top tip I predict these watches to gain in value quite considerable over the next decade! You heard it here first!
My Omega 198.0024 f300 Constellation,“Tuning Fork” the f300 is the frequency that the tuning fork works or hums hence the affectionate name given to them “Hummers”. The watch I own has an Omega 1250 calibre ESA 9162 date only these calibres were designed by Max Hetzel who previously worked for Bulova who designed the Accutron 214.
The ESA 9162 movements are considered the “Rolls Royce” of tuning fork movements. Omega, like many other watchmakers allocated their own calibre numbers to these movements: Omega Calibre 1250 = ESA 9162 date only, Omega Calibre 1260 = ESA 9164 day/date.
The integrated bracelet is made of solid stainless steel links, the clasp is substantial and not flimsy like a look of the competition back in the day. It fastens very securely giving you confidence as you wear it. Finished off with the beguiling Omega logo.
This Omega f300 Constellation is very typical of the early 1970’s design that I love and admire so much. This is 1972 model that is easily dated from the serial number. The build quality of the watch, dial, case and bracelet is outstanding. It is a true testimony to Omega’s workmanship. I own a lot of vintage watches of this era and not many are of this quality. On the back-case in the familiar Constellation Observatory logo.
Also the original crown sporting the Omega logo.
