Tissot T12 automatic

The Tissot T12 Automatic is a  watch I admire very much. They were made in my favourite era, that is the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. The watch itself is solid stainless steel, large, substantial and robust. For me this was Tissot’s in their halcyon days, although I still admire Tissot and many of their current watches.

The Watch

This model is 200m waterproof with a day/date complication in the Tissot 794 caliber. The dial is totally original and unrestored, it has some patina and wabi, but I like it. I particularly like the chapter ring and  raised indices. This watch also has the multi hex screw down crystal ring, which really enhances the period look, and make it so beguiling.

The brushed case and gloss screw down crystal ring complete the aesthetics wonderfully. Along with the Tissot logo on the crown.  Many of these watches have been rescued and buffed so much you can’t even see the hex profile. Look out for this in any potential purchase.

The Back-Case

What a beautiful back-case design is the ‘Galion’ that Tissot incorporate on the T12 models. For me it I really appreciate the quality and aesthetics these back-cases bring to the watch.

The Bracelet

The earlier bracelets were often made by Gay Freres and had their logo on the inner clasp, others were made by Tissot. Both had the out Tissot logo on the clasp.
